Applications are invited for a full-time, non-tenure track administrative/teaching faculty position (Associate Chair and Professor of Practice) in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Lehigh University (https://engineering.lehigh.edu/matsci). As Associate Chair, the Professor of Practice will support the work and role of the department chair as it pertains to teaching, recruiting, and advising.  In addition, the Associate Chair supports the MSE Department in ABET and Middle States accreditation efforts and coordination of the undergraduate curriculum.  The Professor of Practice will also teach core and elective courses in the MSE Department.  The anticipated start date is no later than August 2020; an earlier start date may be possible. The initial appointment will be two or three years depending upon experience.

The MSE Department welcomes applications from individuals with both academic as well as industrial backgrounds.  Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field.  Successful applicants will have the background and skills to support teaching and recruitment needs in the MSE program, in addition to supporting student design teams in the interdisciplinary capstone design program. The successful candidate is expected to be a dynamic educator and administrator with a commitment to advancing the future of the MSE Department. The MSE faculty maintain outstanding international reputations in a variety of research areas, including metallurgy, ceramics, polymers, biomaterials, and electronic materials. The Department currently has 15 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and one Professor of Practice.  The department offers B.S., M.S., M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering.

Lehigh University is in Bethlehem, PA, in the rapidly growing Lehigh Valley metropolitan area. The Lehigh Valley, with a population over 800,000, is located approximately one hour north of Philadelphia and 1.5 hours west of New York City. The University has a current enrollment of approximately 5,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students, and is planning to increase these enrollments in the next few years.
